Story Telling is Art. It is one of man’s original art forms. It came from our minds and tongues. It taught, defined and retold mankind’s humanity.
The Jali is a West African troubadour-historian. The jali profession is hereditary and has long been a part of West African culture. The jali’s role has traditionally been to preserve the genealogies, historical narratives, and oral traditions of their people. Many jali play the kora, a long-necked harp lute with 21 strings. In addition to serving as the primary storytellers of their people, a jali has also served as an adviser and diplomat.
Our intent is to honor and preserve this artistic tradition.
